Re: Random computer shit
so had to build a new computer since mine broke in the move. my dad dropped it. my HAF932 is warped and doesnt sit level on the fake wood floor. the gfx card is dead, and it stopped booting up.
http://valid.canardpc.com/2664995
gfx card is a PowerColor HD7870 LE. the LE is a crippled HD7950, and splits the price between the normal 7870 and 7950. (it was soft-launched and only 1 or 2 MFGs actually produced LE cards)
i really didnt want to spend money, but i wasnt going to skimp out once i knew shit was broked.
CPU: $210
Mobo: $225 ?
Had to buy new RAM cause my old DDR3 wasnt compatible: $80
gfx card: $260
had some gift cards which saved me ~$40, got free shipping on most of it and DE doesnt have sales tax.
~$740... fuck me. Didnt have any probs with old system and no itch to upgrade. Oh, and my first mobo came defective, and newegg was being a bitch about it (didnt want to cross-ship) so when i called asus they told me my old mobo was still under warranty...FUCK ME even worse. could have swapped it out for the cost of shipping and only been out a gfx card.
edit: to be more clear: i knew the mobo was bad. I wasnt gonna buy a used mobo for a dead socket, especially if it wasnt similar to the one i had. that meant i had to buy a new CPU, too, which snowballed into needing RAM b/c my old RAM wasnt compatible. then i pieced it all together and realized the gfx card was also dead. luckily all current intel CPUs have integrated video (onboard video no longer exists on motherboards, it's not on CPUs) so i planned on using that until my next disposable paycheck (mid Feb). yea that didnt last.

Re: Random computer shit
With #WinterComing there are a couple games I'd like to kill a Saturday afternoon or two playing. Anyone have some spare parts floating that they wouldn't mind selling?
All I really have is an old Nvidia 8800GTS, I'm sure a 50$ card from today or the on-board set from a modern CPU would crush it.
(supreme commander forged alliance, men of war assault squad 1) <--horsepower needs, nothing substantial (Maybe Crysis 3?)

I think Scott might be your best option here.
I looked last night and I have a bunch of shit that's probably useless to you. That being said, I have a shitton of good hard drives that I "received" from past jobs. Even some Raptor drives.
I have a bunch of potentially broken items as well. I think Mike and Tenken just gave me their broken shit at some point. I have some nice GFX cards and a decent mobo but I'm pretty sure they all bluescreen. You're welcome to them if you'd like. Just pay shipping.

Would the Q6700 + el-Cheppo MoBo be enough for what I'm targeting to run? Especially if I get a SSD + half decent GFX card? I've got a case or two around, so if it is good enough I'd be happy with that stuff.
